A measuring instrument is described which enables the deviation and oscillation of the intonation of any musical sound to be determined with high speed and accuracy. The instrument works digitally and includes a computer with TTL-IC's to determine the ratio of the frequencies of the test-signal and a chosen standard reference tone. The transformation of this ratio into the logarithmic cent-value is done with the help of a table comprising PROM's (programmable read only memories).

For this reason only a short computing time is needed and the total time to obtain a result is one period of test-signal for the measurement and less than another period for the transformation. The applicability of the instrument is indicated by several examples.
