A Wide Frequency Band Anechoic Water Tank
A classification of different possible lining materials for anechoic water tanks is given together with a detailed discussion of the physical properties of the materials influencing their reflection and absorption properties. These properties are preliminary measured by a number of materials leading to the choice of a cork and aluminium powder loaded butyl rubber lining backed by marine plywood for the final lined water tank construction. Measurements in the finally lined tank of reverberation times, amplitude reflection coefficients and spherical divergence of signals for frequencies ranging from 10 kHz to 300 kHz show excellent anechoic qualities of the lined tank in this frequency range. A special emphasis has been put on the investigation of the disturbing influence arising from a free water surface.
