These oscillations are caused by a periodic variation in the release of heat as a result of the sound waves excited in the gas supply system. For avoiding the oscillations a condition for the specific acoustic impedance at the outlet of the gas is derived and represented graphically in the planes of the complex impedance or the complex reflection factor. This stability condition represents a new formulation of a criterion given by Lord RAYLEIGH for heat induced oscillations and a generalization of various known conditions for the length of the gas supply tube.
