Following a reference to the concept of acoustical impedance in a resonance tube, a generalised procedure is suggested for calculating the terminating impedance for different forms of the termination and not restricted to an open tube, with or without baffle. The method utilised makes
apparent some approximations which arise in deducing the known results for the two extreme cases, mentioned above.
The calculation for an aperture in an infinite wall could be deduced from the preceding problems if a tube of very large section is considered, the opening remaining small.
Finally in the conclusion several examples are given of the experimental verifications.
