abstract = "The threshold of audibility of sinusoidal, periodic loudness and pitch variations of pure tones (threshold of modulation) is determined within the whole auditory area at different degrees of modulation (modulation frequency 4 c/s). Using an audiometer this threshold may be measured
by two methods. The results of both methods agree well. The average curves from a number of normal hearing observers are shown. They give good information about the hearing ability within the auditory area. Some observed peculiarities, especially of persons with hearing loss, are described.",
