N2 - Several examples of waveforms are analysed: 1. rectangular and exponential pulses, 2. rectangularly and exponentially bordered sine functions and 3. the sum of two rectangular sine functions. By means of these examples it is demonstrated that often the frequency and duration of the
individual frequency components can only be determined when the argument and the phase distribution of the spectral function is known. The width and the position of the maxima and the angular velocity of the vector are used. Moreover it is necessary to limit the number of components.

The
conditions for obtaining a practically steady complex spectral function are discussed. The labour of analysing is considerably larger for non-periodic than for periodic functions.
