Education of the patient has been generally accepted as a vitally important component of the management of diabetic patients. Without it effective control of diabetes cannot be ensured. The Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM) has initiated a patients' education programme to educate all its diabetic patients and a sound curriculum has been developed. The BIRDEM library is helping to make this a success by maintaining a vital link between the educators and the learners.
