Two-Curve-Shaped Biosensor for Detecting Glucose Concentration and Salinity of Seawater Based on Photonic Crystal Nano-Ring Resonator

A nano-ring resonator was reported using two-dimensional photonic crystal (2D-PhC) for the detection of small refractive index changes and bio-sensing applications. Two applications including detection of glucose concentration and detection of seawater salinity were investigated. Structure of the biosensor was created by a two-curve-shaped nano-ring resonator sandwiched by two waveguides. The refractive index of sensing hole was changed by binding biomolecules. Hence, the intensity of the transmission spectrum shifted to a lower value. This process was utilized for determining the properties of the analyte. The results reveal that for a unit change in the refractive index, the intensity of transmission spectrum was decreased or increased by about 12.5. Also, regression coefficients for detection of glucose concentration and detection of seawater salinity were respectively obtained as 0.9945 and 0.9996 which showed a good linearity.
