Polyaniline-Functionalized TiO2 Nanoparticles as a Suitable Matrix for Hydroquinone Sensor

In this paper, we report a successful synthesis, characterization and application of Polyaniline (PANI)-TiO2 composite nanoparticles (NPs) for detection of hydroquinone. The PANI-TiO2 composite NPs were prepared through a facile one pot synthesis process at low-temperature using different concentrations of PANI i.e., 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 ml in 0.5 ml of Titanium iso-propoxide. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized for morphological, structural and compositional properties and used as matrix for hydroquinone (HQ) chemical sensor in the form of screen printed electrode (SPE). It was found that PANI concentration plays an important role in sensor performance. The sensors fabricated with 0.5 ml of PANI in TiO2 composite exhibited highest sensitivity of ∼25.23 μA/mM/cm2 as compared to that of 0.3 ml and 0.7 ml of PANI in the composite. This work demonstrated that synthesized polymer-metal oxide composite nanomaterials can be the class of promising material to fabricate highly sensitive chemical sensors.
