Antibacterial Effect of Silver and Gold Nanoparticle Coated Modified C-Palatal Plate

The goal of this study was to investigate antibacterial properties and cell viability of a covalently immobilized gold and silver nanoparticle coated titanium modified C-palatal plate (MCPP) surfaces. Silver and gold nanoparticle-coated titanium (Ti-nAg, Ti-nAu) surfaces were prepared using the silanization method. The amount of deposited nanoparticles (NPs), surface morphology, and chemical component analysis of the surfaces were characterized. The antibacterial qualities of the Ti-nAg and Ti-nAu surfaces were tested on Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. ginginalis) and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A. actinomycetemcomitans). The cytotoxicity of the treated surfaces to NIH3T3 cells was assessed. The Ti-nAg surface had remarkable antibacterial effect compared to the Ti-nAu. However, it showed cell cytotoxicity after 2 days of incubation, whereas Ti-nAu displayed better cell compatibility.
