New Design of All-Optical Logic Universal NAND Gate Formed by NOT (A AND B) Gates Using Michelson Interferometer Based on Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

In this work, proposed a new scheme to realize all-optical universal NAND logic gate at highspeed performance on basis non-linearity of Semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) with Michelson interferometer and an optical filter, based on cross-gain modulation (XGM). NAND operation can be performed by the combination of XOR and NOR logic gates, or else from the union of the AND with NOT gates. Therefore, three all-optical logic gates AND, NOT and NAND, can be simultaneously realized in a single format, similarly with XOR, NOR and NAND. The performance of this scheme analyzed by calculating the quality factor (Q-factor) of the resulting data streams, BER and OSNR using Optical Time Domain Visualizer, Oscilloscope Visualizer and Eye Diagram Analyzer. The results shows AND, NOT and NAND operations at 10 Gb/s with good signal to noise ratio are feasible.
