Study on the Numerical Simulation and Statistical Optimization of Micro-Scale Laser Shock Peening
Micro-scale Laser Shock Peening (μLSP) is a potential technique that can be applied to manipulate residual stress distributions in metal micro-components and thus effectively improve the fatigue performances of Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) made of such micro-components. In order to ensure high quality of μLSP, an appropriate analysis model was established for the numerical simulation of the process, and then some key technical issues in the simulation were studied and solved. By extracting the characteristics of residual stress field and comparing the calculated data with the process parameters, the critical parameters affecting the value of the characteristics of residual stress field induced by μLSP were search out. Then the Box-Behnken optimization program based on the response surface methodology (RSM) was developed to search out the influence of the identified critical parameters and the interaction of the parameters to characteristics of the residual stress field. A quadratic regression model for predicting the average surface residual stress which was one of the characteristics of residual stress field was established, the optimal setting for each process parameter was predicted also. The commercial system ABAQUS based on finite element method (FEM) was applied to the numerical solution.
