Malaysian Batik Sarong Layout Design

Malaysian batik sarongs are a tradition that is designed as a clothing culture. The design layout is unique, which is invented with a balance composition and suited with the function for sarong. This study examines the layout design for the Malaysian batik sarongs that are produced from Kelantan and Terengganu, Malaysia. Selected examples of batik sarongs from Kelantan and Terengganu were viewed and analyzed, in order to draw the features batik sarongs layout design. The outcome was confirmed, which a piece of batik sarong from both states is mainly have a kepala kain (body), badan kain (body-located at the center of batik sarong), apit kain (border) and tepi kain (edge). Indeed, the layout designs are clearly illustrated, in how the continuity of tradition, which historically was learnt from our neighboring country. However, this study established that the Malaysian batik sarong layout designs in Kelantan and Terengganu are invented and contributed to the uniqueness identity.
