Designing Batik with an Alternative Batik Techniques Using Wax Application
Largely, most batik products available in the market today, use special traditional techniques, which are the Batik Blok, Batik Canting and Batik Skrin. Malaysian batik can be further be expanded by introducing various new batik design techniques that are attractive, trendy and more versatile with today’s lifestyle. Nowadays, with the advent of new technologies and media, people are more exposed to various forms of batik, therefore there is a need for more options in contemporary batik designs that are fresh and captivating. This will ensure that batik can be more popular to the general public and not just limited to certain group of people. To enhance batik design innovation and its usage, this research will explore by experimenting different types of alternative techniques in designing batik by using various materials. The results will then be used to obtain feedback on the various potential local uses and hopefully, help Malaysian batik to grow in tandem with the global trend. The outcome could also be implemented, practiced theoretically and practically into the Art and Design Curriculum of the Faculty of Art and Design, Universiti Teknologi MARA particularly, as one of the subjects or courses in the Textile Design Program. The result could also be introduced and expanded among the local practitioners and entrepreneurs of the batik industry.
