An Importance-Performance Matrix Analysis (IPMA) on the Relationship Between Knowledge Creation Abilities and Innovative Work Behavior

While studies on innovative work behavior (IWB) have been extensively reported in the literature, very few had attempted to explore in the context of government setting. In addition, there is also limited studies examining the effect of knowledge creation abilities on IWB. Drawing upon this research gap, a study was conducted with the aim of examining the influence of knowledge creation abilities on IWB. Using the survey research method with a questionnaire as the instrument, data was collected from administrative officers working with the Malaysian federal government. The population was sampled using the stratified random approach, and based on the 305 usable responses, the results of the analysis showed that the predictors of service innovation are processed innovators, externalization, combination and internalization. In addition, it was also found that the predictors of process innovation are socialization, combination and internalization. The findings should be of interest to both researchers and practitioners. As of the researcher, the empirical based framework developed in the study can be further tested in other work setting. As for the practitioners, the findings will help them identify the appropriate training that needs to be focused so as to increase the innovative work behavior among the employees.
