A Design of 6LoWPAN Routing Protocol Border Router with Multi-Uplink Interface: Ethernet and Wi-Fi
The introduction of 6LoWPAN protocol enables IEEE 802.15.4 wireless sensor network devices to be compatible with IPv6 while maintaining low power consumption and taking the nature of wireless sensor networks into account. The biggest advantage of IPv6 based wireless sensor networks is their ability to be seamlessly connected to the Internet. Border router is one important device to provide this connectivity, which passes data and interconnect a WSN network with ordinary IPv6 network, based on Ethernet or Wi-Fi interface. One should keep in mind that border router must provide routing protocol that takes into accounts constraints-based route metrics and routing requirement in 6LoWPAN in order to perform efficient interconnection. In this paper we proposed 6LoWPAN border router solution that has multi uplink Ethernet and Wi-Fi interfaces. Our border router can act in two modes, as a bridge or as a router, and it also support RPL, 6LoWPAN routing protocol that specifies how to build a routing path using an objective function and a set of metrics/constraints. By using this device we have reliable system that enable control and monitor WSN nodes from Internet and any wireless-enabled devices.
