Based on definition given in Green Book, an intersection is the general area where two or more highways join or cross, including the roadway and roadside facilities for traffic movements within it. In order to better meet the increased traffic demand, further roadway improvements are required. Reconstruction to increase the level of service (LOS) of an existing junction is generally very costly, and it is not ideal enough. Stage sequence and junction geometric conditions are seldom considered in the traditional signal timing methods. In this paper, a signal optimization strategy including signal cycle length, signal phrase, stage sequence and junction geometric conditions is proposed based on a careful study on the optimization process of the traffic signal timing optimization of software CROSSIG. Taking some junction in Taiyuan as example, the simulation analysis was done. Average delays and average stops delays are evaluated as indicators. Effectiveness and feasibility of collaborative optimization control scheme are also analyzed by comparing simulation data with the present plan.
