Characteristics of V2O5 Single Bulk Crystals Grown by Modified Bridgman Method

Vanadium oxides have attracted much attention because of their numerous potential applications due to their interesting electrochemical performance, thermochromic and electrochromic properties. Majority of the research on vanadium pentoxide has been on thin films and composites focusing mainly on their electrical and optical properties. This paper reports the successful growth of good quality single crystal vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) grown using 2-zone vertical Bridgman-Stockbarger technique. Single crystals of V2O5 grown are of 8 mm in diameter and 30 mm in height. The crystals are dark brown in color with visible structures towards the last-to-freeze section of the quartz ampoule. The Raman spectra are used to identify the functional groups present in the grown crystals. The dielectric measurements are carried out and the results indicate an increase in dielectric and conductivity parameters with the increase of temperature at all frequencies investigated.
