This paper draws on a recent live project, completed by Birmingham School of Architecture's Co. LAB initiative, as a vehicle to explore the pedagogic and creative process that occurs in studios as a place for production. The project required a designed intervention located in the Art & Design studios, to create a new working environment for the students after their recent move to the existing School of Art building. The project draws on a post-studio approach – initiated by artists Robert Smithson, Daniel Buren et al. – one where work is produced outside of a conventionally defined work space. Dialogue between the Architecture and Art & Design students fluctuated between collaborative production and consultancy. The paper records this dialogue, illustrating the product of a post-studio condition and its comparison to the creative production in our own architecture school.
