Use of satellites for positioning has provided new opportunities in object geo-location. The more precise coordinates obtained with global positioning technology have enabled the development of a new reference framework that provides control for survey applications. Such control is required locally and that it be established in an international frame of reference. The new geodetic infrastructure recently installed in Trinidad and Tobago is capable of delivering precision positioning services. The system provides horizontal accuracy of 1 cm when a mobile satellite receiver is connected to control points through cellular phone technology; static receivers can provide accuracy of better than 5 mm. However, such results can only be achieved if the control points are tied in to an international reference frame. In this paper, we show how this was achieved.
