Macroporous magnetic polymer particles (MPPs) were prepared for use as bacterial immobilization carriers for the treatment of wastewater containing emulsified oil. The specific surface area of MPPs reached up to 1032.43 m2/g, absorption was 17.1007 g/g, and the contact angle () was 133.4°, indicating that the prepared material was fully adsorptive to emulsified oil. The MPPs also showed strong a magnetic response with a saturated magnetization of 3.95 emu/g, which was beneficial for their recovery post-use. The MPPs-immobilized petroleum-degrading bacterial strains showed 13.86% higher activity than that of free bacterial cells. The kinetic analysis of adsorption performance indicated that MPPs could be accurately fitted with a pseudo-second-order model (R 2 > 0.9951, RSD < 4%). The activation energy was 21.65 kJ/mol, which indicated that the process used was physical adsorption. The results indicate that the prepared MPPs, used as an immobilization material, are beneficial for the rapid adsorption and degradation of wastewater containing emulsified oil.
