Fabrication, Photoluminescence Enhancements and Prostate-Specific Antigen Detection of Hierarchical ZnO Nanocolumns Arrays
Hierarchical array of ZnO nano-columns (AZNs) with the nanorod core (∼50 nm diameter) and nanosheets (∼25 nm thickness) shell structure are fabricated on thermal-treated Zn sheet via mercaptosuccinic acid addition, and the diameter and length of these columns are ∼150 nm
and ∼600 nm, respectively. The monoclonal antibodies of prostate specific antigen (antiPSA) are conjugated into AZNs via the carbodiimide chemistry. The photoluminescence (PL) intensity of antiPSA-AZNs is significantly enhanced after PSA antigens are specially bound, and TWEEN 20 is used
as blocking agent during the immunobinding of PSA and antiPSA on AZNs to eliminate the non-specific proteins binding. The obvious linear relation between the PL enhancements and the concentrations of PSA (0–15 ng/mL) provides an effective method for the trace PSA detection in serum samples,
and a limit of 0.25 ng·mL–1 reach to the high-sensitive detection of electrical signal techniques. A mechanism of PL intensity enhancement of PSA-bound AZNs is proposed, based on the decrease of many nanojunctions at the interface between the ZnO NR and secondary nanosheets.
