Copper alloys without molybdenum disulfide and those containing 10 wt.% and 20 wt.% MoS2 were prepared by means of powder metallurgy. Utilizing an experimental pin-disk apparatus, the tribological behavior of electrified pins fabricated from the various alloy composites was investigated as a result of their interaction with a QCr0.5 bronze disk in motion. The results indicate that the friction coefficient and wear rates of the Cu–MoS2 composites are greatly reduced as compared to the copper alloy alone, material containing MoS2 displayed a relatively constant in friction coefficient for all currents and speeds tested. The frictional coefficients and the wear rates for both the Cu–10% MoS2 and Cu–20% MoS2 alloy composites are very similar for each current and speed tested.
