Participation and Guideline to Reduce the Health Effects of Pesticides on Pomelo Orchards in Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province

The main purposes of this research are to study agriculturist participation and to analyse the factors that have an effect on pesticide reduction in Pomelo orchards, Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province. Two hundred and eighty-two questionnaires were used to collect the information from three sub-districts-Bang Nang Li, Bang Khae and Suan Luang. The data was analysed using mean and standard deviation. The agriculturist focus groups were used to study the factors having an effect on using pesticides in pomelo orchards. The results showed that the level of participation of agriculturists to reduce pesticide and weed control chemicals in Amphawa District had an average value of 2.89 which is deemed a ‘medium level.’ The level of participant plans, as well as decision-making of farmers of orchards had an average value of 2.58. The farmers of orchards who participated in agriculture had an average value of 2.77. The benefit and assessment from participation of agriculturists had average values of 3.50 and 2.73, respectively. It was found that there were many factors that had an affect on the participation of agriculturists who did not use pesticides and weed control chemicals in the Amphawa District e.g., personal factors, economic and social factors, awareness of information, state mechanisms, the people and their development and motivation.
