Workplace Happiness, Transformational Leadership and Affective Commitment

The aim of the study was to identify the influence of workplace happiness as mediator of the relationship between transformational leadership and affective commitment. A total of 835 teachers were randomly selected from 167 national secondary schools from three states in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia (Penang, Kedah and Perlis). Research data was collected from respondents using a set of questionnaire consists of three sections. Questionnaire translated from Pryce-Jones was used to identify workplace happiness. Anandan questionnaire was used to measure transformational leadership while Tengku Ahmad questionnaire was used to measure affective commitment. The collected data was analyzed using school analysis unit. Research findings showed that transformational leadership has direct influence towards workplace happiness as well as affective commitment. In addition, workplace happiness has successfully become significant predictor towards affective commitment. Research findings have also proved that workplace happiness was able to act as significant mediator in relationship between transformational leadership and affective commitment.
