Analysis of variations in land cover between 1972 and 1990, Kassala Province, Eastern Sudan, using Landsat MSS data

The paper describes an analysis of vegetation and land cover changes between 1972 and 1990 in Kassala Province, Eastern Sudan. Three areas were selected and studied using Landsat Multi-Spectral Scanner (MSS) data. A maximum likelihood routine was used and sand land, grassland, forest, irrigated areas, kerrib, water, cultivated areas and mountain areas were classified. The study indicates increases in sand land, forest and cultivated areas, and a decrease in grassland.
