OpenURL compliancy

Ingenta Connect is OpenURL compliant. This means two things:

It can be configured as a target for link servers: see here for details of our algorithmic linking syntax, which can be used to create links to content on Ingenta Connect from information in your link server's knowledge base.

It can be configured as a source for link servers: librarians from link server aware institutions can add details of their link server to their Ingenta profile to enable context-sensitive linking on Ingenta Connect. In addition to the base URL of the link server, administrators can determine the image and text which will accompany the link. Please note that such links will only appear for the cited references in articles unless your institution has purchased Ingenta Connect Complete or Library Membership.

Once configured, OpenURL links will appear on the Linking Options page presented to users following Active Reference Links from within Ingenta Connect hosted full text.

What is an OpenURL?

The OpenURL is a standardised linking syntax used to carry metadata about an object. OpenURLs are usually constructed in order to query a link server.

What is a link server?

A link server is a server which has nominated known resources for resolving OpenURL queries. Libraries who have enabled a link server can choose which resources they want to offer to their users, including local holdings.

What parameters does Ingenta Connect pass?

Links from active references in Ingenta Connect hosted full text will contain as many of the following elements as we are able to provide:

always passed:
sid=ingenta:fulltext
ISSN
either volume or year
article start page number

passed when available:
month
issue
article title
journal title
