Ni-DLC Composite Films Prepared by CVD Technique: Synthesis and Characterization
Diamond-like carbon films with nickel nanoparticles (Ni-DLC) embedded in them were deposited on glass substrates by using capacitatively coupled plasma (CCP) chemical vapour deposition (CVD) techninique. Size and volume fraction of nickel nanocrystallites were tailored by varying the
relative amount of argon in the methane and argon plasma. Microstructural studies were carried out by SEM, AFM and XRD studies. Films were also characterized by measuring optical properties. EDAX measurements on the films were carried out for compositional information. Bonding environment
in these films were obtained from Raman and FTIR studies. PL studies indicated the two strong peaks corresponding to a narrower π–π* gap in sp2 sites and a high energy peak due to the σ–σ* gap, respectively.
