Value Engineering of Proprietary Process Technologies
Increasing the scale of MBR processes has developed opportunities for process enhancements that increase project value. A series of modifications to the original vendor design at the 2.5 MGD Forsyth County MBR plant resulted in a significant reduction in capital and operating costs, while increasing process flexibility. The modifications ranged from provision of foam and grease removal to protect the membrane cassette tanks to induction of biological phosphorus removal for reduced operating costs. Combining the use of dynamic process simulation tools with sound engineering allowed deployment of a highly efficient design in this Design/Build/Operate project.
