A Revision of the Genus Pickfordiateuthis Voss, 1953 (Cephalopoda; Myopsida)
A new species of myopsid squid, Pickfordiateuthis vossi, is described from the tropical eastern Pacific. This new species is characterized by its highly modified tentacles, the lack of chromatophores on the visceral membrane and the ancestral Type I loliginid hectocotylus. An
additional species of Pickfordiateuthis species A is described and illustrated, but is not named. The family Pickfordiateuthidae is placed in the family Loliginidae as a junior synonym and the genus Pickfordiateuthis is revised. A key to the species of Pickfordiateuthis
is provided.
