Behavioral Associations of Seven West Indian Reef Fishes with Sea Anemones at Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles
The antipredatory behavior of dwelling within the tentacular sphere of sea anemones was observed in seven species of reef fishes. Three of these species are new records of anemone-dwelling fishes: the clinid Starksia hassi Klausewitz and the gobies Quisquilius hipoliti
(Metzelaar) and Lythrypnus nesiotes Bohlke and Robins. All associations are facultative. Only Starksia hassi was observed in full contact with the tentacles without noticeable harm.
