Notes on the West Atlantic Jawfishes, Opisthognathus Aurifrons, O. Lonchurus and Gnathypops Bermudezi
Opisthognathus aurifrons (Jordan and Thompson) is redescribed, with special emphasis on differences in color pattern and certain counts in different geographic locations. Gnathypops bermudezi Howell Rivero is synonymized with O. aurifrons. The species is recorded
for the first time from the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands. Descriptive notes are given for O. lonchurus Jordan and Gilbert and its known distribution is extended southward from Haiti to Surinam.
