Free Content Names of the Blue Marlin and Black Marlin

Examination of type material in the British Museum (Natural History) allowed identification of older names with currently accepted species. The Atlantic blue marlin is named Makaira herschelii (Gray), dating from 1838. The Pacific black marlin is named lstiompax brevirostris (Playfair), dating from 1866. Brief diagnoses and synonymies are given.
