Pachyphloeus depressus sp. nov. is described based on specimens collected from the valley of the Jinshajiang River in southwest China. The species can be distinguished from all other species in Pachyphloeus by its smooth, greenish brown ascomata covered with yellow-green hairs, and its globose ascospores with spines that have somewhat T-shaped or capitate apices. Phylogenetic analyses of the ITS and ITS-LSU supported the erection of a new species.
