A Comparison of the Value Systems of Ethiopian-born Emigrants and Israeli-born Adolescents: Origin and Gender
The aims of this study are to compare the motivational value system contents and structure, as well as the priorities in relation to gender and origin of Ethiopian-born adolescents, who are new emigrants in Israel, with that of Israeli-born adolescents. Three hundred adolescents studying
in the 11th grade in nine integrative educational institutions (including boarding schools), 56% Ethiopian-born and 44% Israeli-born, participated in the research. The structure of the value systems of the two groups confirmed Schwartz’ 1992 model. There were several differences in the
priorities of values according to origin and gender, confirming the direction of adjustment to Israel’s multicultural modern society.
