Peirce’s Existential Graphs and Semeiotic of the Eucharist
Peirce's existential graphs (EG) constitute the lingua franca for his mature semeiotic/logic. The ontology required for EG is the same as that required for his theory of signs (or semeiotic), namely: relations understood as the building blocks of reality, much in the manner of
contemporary quantum physics. This ontology is explored via the example of various Eucharistic traditions in religious practice. A possible result of such study might be increased use of relational resources for improved understanding of the fundamentals of religious discourse. Concomitantly,
one may find a decline in the role of nominalism, materialism, and mechanism within that discourse, in a manner similar to the decline of those three factors as foundations of physics.
