Thomas A. Sebeok's Global Semiotics: Modeling, communication, and dialogism

In this paper we deal with Thomas A. Sebeok's conception of modeling and interrelation of semiosis in its entirety over the planet Earth. We develop his conception of interrelation through Mikhail M. Bakhtin's conception of dialogism. What connects Sebeok's global interrelation and Bakhtinian dialogism is their common interest in biology. Not only is Sebeok's semiotics based on the study of biology, but also Bakhtin's conception of dialogue, as demonstrated by the latter’s commitment to writing a paper on contemporary vitalism in biology, published under the name of the biologist Ivan I. Kanaevon Through Bakhtin, and using Sebeok's global approach to semiotics, it is possible to extend dialogism beyond the sphere of anthroposemiosis to found all communication processes not only on modeling, as says Sebeok, but also on dialogism. This does not contradict the Peircean matrix of Sebeok's semiotics, since the concept of dialogue plays a fundamental role in the theory of Charles S. Peirce as well.
