Influence of the Initial Phase of Short Sinusoidal Pulses on the Duration Threshold for Tone-Pitch
The effect of the initial phase of short tone pulses on their tone-pitch has been experimentally studied. Seven different frequencies were used: 125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, 4000 Hz and 8000 Hz. The results of our experiments show that the increase in the initial phase
from 0° to 80° cause generally an increase of the tone-pitch duration threshold. This has been found mainly in the frequency range of 125 Hz to 1000 Hz, however it can hardly be detected at the frequency range of 2000 Hz to 8000 Hz. The observed phenomenon seems to support the place
theory of audition.
