Open Access Decay Characteristics of Vowel Cavities Recorded Inside and Outside the Mouth

Download Article:
Using a spark discharge for the excitation of the vowel cavities, first, it was examined how the resonance data change at the open and at the closed glottis. Experiments give lower values for both, resonance frequency and logarithmic decrement at the closed glottis. The width of the resonance curves are in this case wider than generally published in the literature.

In the second part of experiments the frequency characteristics of the radiation resistance of the mouth was determined. The data achieved by a direct measuring method are in good agreement with the generally used 6 dB/oct. slope of the frequency dependence.
