Open Access Calculations and Speculations about the Hydraulic Theory of Hearing

The hydraulic theory of hearing considers the cochlea as a rather simple hydraulic engine. According to this theory von Békésy's observations are valid only for sound pressures far above the threshold of feeling and theories of hearing based on the extrapolation of these observations, as given by various authors for the normal range of sound pressures, are not valid at all.
