Open Access Integrating Device for the Evaluation of Irregular Oscillatory Phenomena

Download Article:
Plain recording is often not sufficient for the evaluation of irregular phenomena.

This paper describes an electronic device which measures directly the conventional mean value and the root mean square value of electric voltages having any course, such as those obtained from various types of transducers, like microphones, seismographs, accelerometers, piezometers, etc.

The advantages of the apparatus are that the period of integration can be extended even for so long as ten minutes, and its simplicity, which makes it possible to use it under any conditions, even on vehicles in motion.

Mention is made lastly of some applications of the new apparatus in various fields, such as in the study of oscillations and other dynamic quantities relating to the movement of vehicles, oscillations of buildings and other carrying structures, measurement of ambient noises, etc.
