Open Access A study of acoustic streaming in liquids over a wide frequency range

Download Article:
An experimental study is made of the streaming in liquids from vibrating bodies from infra-sonic to ultrasonic frequencies. It appears that the general form of the streams is the same at all frequencies and satisfies a formula due to Rayleigh. In certain liquids at higher frequencies there is additional streaming, which is related to radiation pressure and the high attenuation of the sound waves. Possible causes of this high attenuation are discussed.
