A method of measuring the velocity of sound in a few grams of a liquid
A slight modification of the electrodynamical sound generator of St. Clair permits the determination of the resonance frequency of the free-free bar with and without a liquid column on top of it.
The velocity of sound of the liquid follows from a very simple formula taking account of the small quantity of the liquid. The height of the column is about one quarter of a wave length (2.5 cm for 10 kc/s). It is thought that the accuracy may be better than 0.1 per cent.
