Intelligent car headlamps enable a number of innovative safety and comfort functions of modern vehicles. With their interplay between sensorics and actuating they form complex mechatronic systems that benefit from MEMS technology. The use of a novel 3D Hall based position sensor is discussed. In this application, the attitude of a light projection module, which governs the light distribution on the road surface, is controlled in two directions by a single Hall sensor. Different concepts for this application were investigated. In this paper the findings of a systematic variation of the positioning of sensor and magnet, respectively, are presented.
