Synthesis of Manganese-Doped Zinc Sulfide and Zinc Sulfide Antioxidant Nanocomposites in Egg Albumin

Mn2+-doped ZnS and ZnS antioxidant nanocomposites were synthesized through precipitation in an eggalbumin matrix to develop nanocomposites for use in bioimaging and as carriers for conventional drugs. The defects on the surface of the Mn2+-doped ZnS nanoparticles were passivated and eliminated when albumin was used as a surface modifier. The red-shift of the emission peaks attributed to Mn2+ in the ZnS:Mn spectra in the egg-albumin matrix was caused by the change of the crystal field strength. ZnS nanorods were formed through the hydrolysis of thiourea, and the egg albumin acted as a structure-directing agent.
