Abstract:

Despite C?te d'Ivoire's dependence on a limited range of traditional exports, it is one of Africa's most diversified economies. Its location geographically and economically at the hub of Francophone West Africa leaves it ideally placed to capitalise on the economic development of the region. However, tensions between Christians and Muslims as well as the instability that has persisted since the military coup of December 1999 have undermined the country's economic prospects. Social unrest has been the prime factor in the supply bottlenecks that are preventing the export of cocoa and bananas, the country's mainstay, from leaving the country's ports. Consequently, economic growth has been largely absent and C?te d'Ivoire has languished in recession.

World of Information Business Intelligence Reports allow access to concise, clear coverage of current political and economic developments in over 100 countries.
