In 2014, a 2-year pilot project was completed by Algae Systems which proved for the first time that wastewater treatment and biofuel production using algae was practical, cost-effective and profitable on a production scale. Algae Systems has developed new technologies at the water-energy nexus to decrease the cost of both water treatment and fuel production. Our original objectives have been achieved as we have now designed, demonstrated and proven technologies to treat wastewater in a carbon-negative manner while generating energy and producing drop-in renewable fuels at low costs. A full-scale commercial facility is planned for 2015 / 2016 as of this writing at a location currently under negotiation.
