Potential Sterilization of Biosolids by the BioElectro™ Process
This paper describes a new BioElectro™ process, which is able to sterilize biosolids in less than two hours at a low cost. The process was proven on anaerobically digested biosolids, where DC electric field coupled with enhancement agents inactivated Clostridium perfringens
spores reaching log 9 reduction. It was concluded that presence of unionized ammonia molecule along with the elevated temperature generated due to exothermic reaction within the system generate multiple stressors that may sterilize biosolids. The process is ready to be used in batch and continue
flow systems.
