Identify and quantify your bugs: Monitor and troubleshoot foaming, bulking, nitrification, phosphorus removal, digester gas and pathogens in effluent and biosolids
Recent and rapid developments in DNA sequencing technology now allow us to fully characterize the quantity and identity of nearly all microbes in any given system. This capability has greatly enhanced our capabilities for understanding and troubleshooting microbial systems, which previously
relied on rudimentary methods such as culturing and microscopy. The power of DNA technology now allows us to monitor and investigate microbial problems with activated sludge, anaerobic digestion, surface waters, drinking water systems and environmental remediation. Specifically, DNA based
microbial identification can be used to troubleshoot wastewater problems with nitrification, phosphorus removal, odors, anaerobic digestion and pathogens in effluent and biosolids. This technology can also be used to troubleshoot problems in drinking water systems such as fecal contamination
of source water, microbial fouling of wells, taste/odor/color issues, and biofilms in distribution systems that may cause aesthetic and corrosion problems. Finally, the environmental remediation industry is benefiting from this technology by finally being able to quantify and characterize
the microbes that are remediating soils and waters.
