Abstract:

The Water Environment Research Foundation's (WERF) Strategic Asset Management (SAM) Challenge is a multi-year research program that is developing guidance and decision support tools for communicating and implementing asset management programs for wastewater utilities. The research recognizes the need that utilities have for useful products to support their focus on planning, acquiring, operating, maintaining, rehabilitating, and building water infrastructure to maximize performance while minimizing the life cycle cost at an acceptable level of risk¨ EMA and partnering organizations lead this research, which expands 's Sustainable Infrastructure Management Program Learning Environment (SIMPLE) knowledge base for asset management in four “tracks“: (1) Public Communication, (2) Benchmarking Leading Practices, (3) Decision/Analysis Implementation Guidance, and (4) Remaining Asset Life.
